Back from Barcelona

Man, jet lag is a beast. So. Freaking. Tired.

By the way, I’m back from Spain. And I have tons of delicious tidbits to share.

Oh, we went to the Sagrada Familia…

…and Parc Guell…

…and loads of other incredibly important artsy cultural touristy stuff.

But come on. That’s not why you’re here.

You’re here because this is a food blog, and I just came back from the food capital of the world.  Of course, Sam and I couldn’t afford to try the haute-haute avant-garde molecularly gastronomic creations that have shot Barcelona into the culinary firmament.  But we still ate very, very well.

How well, you ask?

Well, we had olives…

…and cured Iberian ham…

…and bocadillos of fatty, spicy chorizo…

…and Cantabrian anchovies on tomato-rubbed bread…

…and gambas a la plancha–exquisitely grilled fresh shrimp…

…and patatas bravas with garlic aioli and hot sauce…

…and fried calçots–Catalonian spring onions–with romesco sauce…

…and, of course, paella…

…and paella with squid ink…

…and paella with lobster (yes, we splurged a little)…

…and hot chocolate so thick it needs a spoon…

…and, to cap it off, flutes of cava.

Now it’s time for me to go sleep off the jet lag, while you dab the drool off your keyboard.  Once that’s done, let’s meet back here and watch me try my hand at some comida española.  I can’t wait.
